9TH ANNUAL BAY AREA CAPITAL CONNECTIONS
A VIBRANT ECONOMY FOR ALL
On Saturday, December 2nd, the ALLIANCE will bring together diverse, Bay Area entrepreneurs and key stakeholders in the entrepreneurship ecosystem to build “A Vibrant Economy for All.”
For eight years, we have hosted our annual Bay Area Capital Connections Conference to celebrate the brightest and most diverse entrepreneurs in the Bay Area and thought leaders in the field.
This year, we ask: What would it look like if our local, diverse entrepreneurs had the same level of access to a robust network of support (personal support, business support, financial support, environment support) as our venture-backed start-ups?
What would it take from each of us to build that vibrant economy for all?
We’ve Done It Before
In 1999, the ALLIANCE came together to prove out a wild idea. We believed that a social impact, double bottom line fund could be just as profitable as a traditional investment fund. Through partnership and collaboration, we pulled together a team and co-sponsored the Bay Area Equity Fund in 2001, which raised $75M and invested in companies such as Tesla, Pandora, and Solar City to create jobs in Bay Area communities.
The success of the Bay Area Equity Fund demonstrated that social impact investing could be just as beneficial to investors as traditional investments. And support positive social change in the process! Together, we proved an innovative model’s effectiveness by describing a vision, and bringing together a community, an alliance, of key stakeholders to build it.
We Can Do It Again!
This year, the ALLIANCE will again bring together a community of stakeholders to build out and prove an innovative model’s effectiveness. This local entrepreneurship ecosystem model must be rooted in shared values. We offer our IDEALS (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, Access, Local leadership, and Sustainability). With shared values at our core, this vibrant vision will strive for equitable access to networks, support, and yes, capital, for all.
The Day of the BACC9 Convening
How can we achieve this vibrant economic vision? On Saturday, December 2nd, we will hear directly from dozens of local, diverse, entrepreneurs. We will be inspired with speeches from those who have led the way in innovative, structural change. Then, in two breakout sessions, we will listen to you, our stakeholders, as you describe your vision, your insights, your goals, and your commitments. For the full agenda, click on the Event Program button above.
Together we will address shared challenges and establish shared goals, engaging in two collaborative breakout sessions:
(1) Microcosm Session – Centered around supporting individual entrepreneurs in small breakout groups, working across silos and stakeholder groups. Each curated microcosm will be facilitated by an Entrepreneurship Navigator as we tap into our local entrepreneurship support network, working as a team to develop six-month goals and six-month plans for forward progress.
(2) Stakeholder Session – Centered around internal coordination within each stakeholder group: time for entrepreneurs to connect with fellow entrepreneurs, service providers with fellow service providers, mentors with fellow mentors, capital providers with fellow capital providers, and government representatives with fellow government representatives. Each stakeholder group will engage in a facilitated discussion, establishing coordination strategies, communication channels, six-month goals, and next steps.
Together, as a convened body, we will develop a concrete, six-month plan of action and re-convene to reward our progress and discuss next steps in June of 2018 for our 10th Annual Bay Area Capital Connections Conference.
